Traveling across the European region has been made more delightful and convenient with the rise of different tunnel systems. The second longest railway tunnel in the world is located in Europe. The Channel Tunnel is a rail tunnel connecting Folkestone in England all the way to Calais in France. The tunnel was completed in 1994 after years of tedious and aggressive development. The rail tunnel is second to Japan’s Seikan Tunnel in being the longest rail tunnel in the planet. However, the undersea portion of the Channel Tunnel is definitely the longest undersea.Currently, many people are awed by the Channel Tunnel. The rail tunnel is operated by Eurotunnel, a leader in rail transport in the region. Through connecting France and England, travelers can use Channel Tunnel in significantly cutting travel time between the two countries. Channel Tunnel has been declared ad among the top Seven Wonders of the Modern World, according to an industry group American Society of Civil Engineers. People have waited decades and seven years before construction and development of the rail tunnel has been realized and completed. Now, the rail tunnel is one of the prides of both the United Kingdom and France.
